Pre-flight checks

Before you fly

The stuff nobody tells you: international license, military status, and country restrictions.

Driving

International driving license

Where to get it

Issued by the Automobile & Touring Club of Egypt (ATCE) — main branch in Downtown Cairo, plus branches in other governorates.

What to bring

Valid Egyptian driving license + copy, passport + copy, national ID, and personal photos.

Good to know

Usually valid for one year and issued same day. Always carry it together with your Egyptian license.

Military

Military status & travel

Finished service or exempted

No travel permit needed. Keep your completion/exemption certificate handy — airport officers may ask.

Haven't served yet (postponed / student)

Males of conscription age need a travel permit (تصريح سفر) from the Recruitment & Mobilization Department before leaving. Students get it with university papers.

Currently serving / reserve

You need approval from your unit before any travel. Don't book non-refundable tickets until it's issued.

Heads up

Travel restrictions

Security approval for some countries

Egyptian men in certain age ranges may need prior security approval to travel to some countries (e.g. Turkey, Qatar, Iran, some conflict zones). Rules change — check before booking.

Travel bans & stamps

Some countries may refuse entry based on certain previous stamps. Check your passport history against your destination.

Passport validity

Most countries require 6 months' validity beyond your return date and at least 2 blank pages.

Draft info — always confirm with official authorities before you travel.
